After years of wanting a cabinet of my own, I convinced myself to go to a local arcade auction held by Super Auctions with no intensions of actually getting anything at all. Well, they just so happened to have a Galaxian cabinet. This was an unexpected surprise, and I knew it would end up coming home with me that day. After lots of waiting around for its turn on the auction block, the machine was mine for $150. I loaded it on the truck, brought it home, and decided to document it's appearance before I performed any work on it.

All the machines were butted tightly up against one another, side to side at the auction house. It was a fairly amazing site seeing a warehouse full of so many machines just begging for some TLC and a good home. Sort of like the pound. Sad. I pulled the machine out to give it a good inspection. While it didn't turn on or boot up at the auction, this didn't bother me, because I plan to gut it anyways. |

The cab made it home safe and sound thanks to some kind fellows helping me get it wrapped and loaded for a small fee. Here's the front of the Galaxian. The control panel is obviously not original on this one. Again, I'm going to be customizing a brand new one for this guy anyways. |

This shot of the monitor bezel shows that it's in OK shape. There is some damage to the bottom portion. I'd like to encorporate this back into my project, but I really want a rotating monitor which means some customizing once again. I'll end up selling this after I replicate a custom solution. |

Here's a close up shot of the kickplate. It has water damage along the bottom, where the wood is splitting away pulling off some of the vinyl artwork. You'll also notice that the arcade opperator was concerned with theft, as there are all sorts of holes around the coin door where a metal security bar was likely placed over the door. I'll be healing those scars shortly enough. |

A shot of the left side of the cabinet. I love the artwork on the Galaxian cab, and am sad when I see how mistreated this side was. There are lots of initials carved in the artwork, and the left top side is very worn for whatevere reason. I think I'll need to replace the art, it seems in too much disrepair to salvage it. |

The right side of the cabinet is in much better shape. If I replace one side, I mind as well replace them all so they match. |

The back side of more hidden object games
the howto new spongebob games
cabinet also shows it's age. The download turbo fiesta
venting holes are chipped and will need repaired. The maintenance door seems like it has been repaired badly a few times given the putty or whatever is miscolored near the top by the lock. It was at least neat to see that the cabinet came with the original identification plate near the top left vent. This cabinet is one of the original makes of the machine according to some data I found on the net. Later runs changed the t-molding color to be bright green/blue. |

Beauty shot #1. How can this machine truely not bring back memories of childhood? |

Beauty shot #2. Something about the design of this cabinet encompases all the right things that make me want to breathe new life back into the machine. |
